Welcome to Wider Horizons School

Since 1983 Wider Horizons School has been the only non-religiously affiliated, academic private school in Hernando County, Florida. The central Florida location gives students year round access to outdoor classroom activities.
Wider Horizons School is dedicated to teaching the skills and character necessary for success in life. The school creates and educational environment motivating the student to strive to maximize his or her potential in the academic, social, emotional and moral domains.

Our dual enrolled juniors and seniors. All are full time students at Pasco-Hernando Community College. All students are doing exceptionally well receiving no grade below a B. "Data published by American College Testing (ACT) shows that fewer than two in ten eighth graders are on track to be ready for college level work by the time they graduate from high school." This is not the case at Wider Horizons School in Spring Hill since 1983.
These college bound juniors and seniors scored very high on the SAT exam. Ariana Bond, senior, scored 2170 with a perfect 800 in the writing section. She will be attending FSU to fulfill her lifelong dream to become a meteorologist. Aarish Hasan scored a 2030 and has already been accepted into the medical honors program at the University of Florida. Juniors, Conor Zhang scored 2040, Pranav Lokin scored 1800, Tylor Hubbard scored 1670, Kingsley Barte scored 1550 and sophomore, Melissa Holgado scored 1940.
Although Wider Horizons School's college prep program may be small, the results are HUGE. All graduating seniors will have completed an Associate Degree before high school graduation. All of the juniors are dual-enrolled and are on track to complete the requirements for an Associate Degree by their high school graduation next year. The sophomores will all be dual enrolled next year as well. One sophomore has begun taking a class this spring at P-HCC.
These students from WHS college preparatory program are prepared for college. Kingsley Barte, junior, "our high school math, science and English programs are so comprehensive that the college work is easy for us." This is shown in the grades these students earned. Wider Horizons Schools policy for dual-enrolled students is that they must receive nothing less than a B to continue taking classes. Both graduating seniors have 4.0 Grade Point Averages. Samantha Pippinger, also a senior, has completed her Associates Degree and has been attending the honors program at the University of Tampa since January.
Excellence in academic studies is also indicated by the junior high students at Wider Horizons School who score in the 90th percentile and above on the national Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Obviously WHS is doing something right in educating todays student
