Acupuncture has been available in West Orange County for several years now and has steadily grown in popularity with multiple practices opening their doors.
Dr. Ragu Nath, MAOM, AP , is the latest to offer his services. He recently purchased Sun Acupuncture and renamed the practice Sai Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic. The office is located at 871 Vineland Road, Suite B, in Winter Garden.
Coming from a family rich with medical tradition, Nath practiced western medicine from 1979 to 2002 in his native India and the Middle East. More than a dozen members of his family are doctors or dentists, including his wife, a medical doctor.
Shortly after arriving in the United States in 2002, Nath discovered acupuncture when he sought treatment for severe back pain. He said he was amazed at how well it worked and he soon enrolled in the Academy of Oriental Medicine at Austin (Texas). After graduating early, Nath and his family moved to Winter Garden for its warm climate and the opportunity to take over an existing practice. While western medicine treats only the symptoms of an illness, Nath said, acupuncture and herbal medicine address its source.
The purpose of acupuncture is to regulate qi and blood flow within the body by inserting needles at precise acupoints. Together with herbal medicine, treatments are designed to bring balance and harmony to the body without any side effects.
Modern western medicine cannot yet explain how acupuncture works, but the World Health Organization recognizes acupuncture's effectiveness for more than 40 common disorders, including respiratory, gastrointestinal, circulatory, urogenital, gynecological, musculoskeletal, neurological, ear, nose and throat and more.
