A Central Florida newspaper called Cobb Cole a "blue chip" law firm. Another called the Firm "prestigious." Such recognition is not unusual for Cobb Cole, as it was earned through years of hard work.
The Firm's history, encompassing more than eight decades, began in 1925, when William M. Cobb opened his office in Daytona Beach, Florida. Thomas Cobb joined his father in 1939, and after William's death, he practiced alone for several years. Then, in 1950 he decided to create a law firm. Associating with Warren Cole, then a new graduate of Duke University, he founded Cobb Cole.
Their partnership flourished. Thirty years later, the Daytona Beach News-Journal featured the Firm under the headline, "Lawyers Keeping Pace: Partnership Changes with the Times." Calling the diversified firm a "legal department store," the paper said Mr. Cobb founded the firm because he saw a "need to build a firm with lawyers capable in various areas of law practice." Said Mr. Cobb:
"I made a conscious decision then to build a law firm which could adequately serve the needs of a growing community. And this has been my aim throughout the more than 30 years since I first saw the need to build a firm which would have within it lawyers who were capable in the various areas of practice we encounter in this community."
The Firm has welcomed the consistent growth and development that results in the formation of a large law firm. Through the selective recruitment of both promising and seasoned attorneys, Cobb Cole has become the largest law firm on Central Florida's East Coast and a market leader in the areas of Business Litigation, Land Development/Regulatory Law, Commercial Finance, Construction, Corporate/Business, Family Law, Intellectual Property, First Amendment, Florida Sunshine and Public Records Law, Employment and Labor, Real Estate and Tax. Still, despite its growth over the years to a firm of twenty-seven attorneys (including of counsel), Cobb Cole remains committed to its original principles of accessibility, client service, collaboration, and diversity.
Focusing on its founder's aim, the Firm encourages collaboration among attorneys, personal attention to client demands, the use of the newest technology, and excellence in each aspect of work product, in an effort to meet the needs of a variety of clients effectively.
The community has recognized Thomas Cobb's success in building this law firm. When the Civic League of the Halifax Area presented Mr. Cobb its highest award for distinguished community service, it praised Mr. Cobb, not only as a civic leader whose "innate decency and integrity [make him] the natural ally of all that is good and constructive," but also as a law firm leader who "attracted a fine group of men and women to this town to practice law with him."
