Dr.Clayman trained at Harvard University, where he was an All-American athlete in track and field. He graduated from TUFTS Medical School, interned at University of Pennsylvania, did his surgical training at St.Elizabeths in Boston, completed his Otolaryngology residency at Jefferson University, and finished his Plastic Surgery training at the University of Florida.

He entered the US Air Force, where he attained the rank of Lt. Colonel. During the Vietnam War, he performed extensive facial reconstruction on the first returning prisoners of war. He became Board Certified in Otolaryngology in 1972 and Board Certified in Plastic Surgery in 1981. Dr. Clayman is past President of the Greater Jacksonville Society of Plastic Surgeons, member of the American Society of Plastic Surgery, American Society of Aesthetic Surgery, and the American Society of Otolaryngology.
