When you have chronic pain, it often seems as if your pain is in control of our life. Worse yet, these days, it can be almost impossible to find a good pain doctor. Many physicians are afraid to prescribe pain medication, even when medically appropriate, for fear that they will either be investigated by the authorities or turn their patients into addicts. Although pain medication isnt always the solution, in some cases it is a necessary component of a comprehensive pain management program. This is especially true when combined with exercise, weight-management, neuropathic agents, and/or NSAIDs.
Many of the doctors who do prescribe adequate amounts of pain medication either do so indiscriminately, often leading to their being closed down by the authorities, or alternatively, only do so when their patients consent to epidural steroid injections. According to our research, there arent any controlled studies showing epidural steroids to be effective at relieving chronic pain on a long-term basis. Thus, we believe their use needs to be circumscribed to acute pain cases.
Dr. VanDercar attempts to provide qualified pain patients with a pain management regime capable of bringing their pain down to an acceptable level without causing unnecessary side-effects.

Today was my only my second visit to Tampa Pain Clinic (TPC) however I was greeted with warm concerned smiles and a VERY caring doctor who TRULY believes in me! He not only worked with me in adjusting my medications he also really listened to what I had to say without judging me... After only just two visits and some slight medication adjustments I am feeling like I did before... My family and I cannot thank you enough for all of the kind help and compassion you have given us. -Joseph

I have been a patient of Dr. VanDercar's since October of 2005. He is the only one in the last ten years that has been able to help me with my hereditary spastic paraparesis, interstitial cystitis, ulcerative colitis, and gastroparesis. My pain is tolerable now.
