Welcome to our practice. Here are just a few words about us and our intentions for you and your pet. All too often decisions are made based on ability to pay and/or a presumption of what the owner wants. Our approach is to tell you in simple and honest terms what we think is best for your pet and you.Compassionfor the animal comes first and the relief of stress and distress from disease or simple "fear" of the visit to the vet is our first goal. We then address the issues that bring you to us. Be it the annual examination and vaccinations, or illness or injury, you will be given the best evaluation and assessment that is possible and then we,together, decide what course of action to take next. Your imput is the most important information we can use to help you make the important decisions. So, just as we will not hesitate to be honest with you, youmust be honestwith us. Both you and your pet will benefit from that relationship and we will be able to provide you with the best of care for your pet.

WELCOME to a new feature on our webpage that I plan to keep you informed of new developments and information important to you and your pet.

First, I want to comment about the new After Hours Emergency system we have put in place. After 18 months of keeping the office staffed until 12AM every day, it became apparent that this was not an efficient use of time and staff. To maintain a 24 hour service for you we have contracted with a veterinary answering service that will assist you in contacting us and provide a means of being available without having staff sitting in the office when not needed. Please refer to the Emergency Services link at the top of this page to find more detail regarding this new service. After 3 months of using this service we are finding this to be an excellent means of providing 24 hour service for you very quickly. On average it takes less than 15 minutes from the time you call to our meeting you here at the clinic.

We are making an effort to help you manage your pets weight. According to national statistics, approximately 80% of all cats and dogs are overweight and of the pets that are overweight, 20% of them are clinically obese. Clinical obesity means that they are at least 25% over their ideal weight.

There is a great source of information available for all of us online at a website called www.petobesityprevienton.com . The address to the newsletter is newsletter@petobesityprevention.com and there are many links to helpful information. I encourage you to visit the website and subscribe to the newsletter. You will have a healthier pet and actively prevent many diseases that are related to obesity.

Dr. Ward also has written a book entitled Chow Hounds which is the most informative nutritional book I have ever read. I encourage you to find it on Amazon.com or some other online source and purchase it. You will find valuable information in it that you didn't even know you needed to know!

In the office we are prepared for most any event that can happen with your pet. None of us can control when they get excited and urinate or something else on the floor. Don't worry about it - that's why we have tile floors. On the other hand, walking your dog before you leave home and limiting breakfast on the morning of your visit will help their need to eliminate along the way. One word of caution, however, never-never, take their water away from them. We don't want to see an animal that is even a little dehydrated, it can truly confuse the examination process and water is very important to control their ability to deal with heat! So, never limit the water - if they urinate we have to the technology to cope with it.

We have equipped our lab to preform the basic and necessary tests for your visit. These include a complete blood count, blood chemistries, heartworm tests, feline leukemia and aids tests, parvotests, as well as many others. Occasionally there will be other needs and we will send them to the laboratory services available for expert evaluation.
We also have a new high quality x-ray machine and x-ray processor to assist our diagnostic challenges. So,we will be able to preform any diagnostics necessary to get to the root of your pet's problem.
