We do it for you...

When distance or time restrictions prevent you from caring for your senior family member in need, we at Compassionate Companions want you to know that you can count on us for reliable senior homecare services, transportation, meal preparation, medication reminders and mental stimulation, just to name a few of the personal eldercare services we provide.
Our mature, reliable and experienced eldercare companions and homemakers can take on the tasks that you may be unable to do. The mature caregivers at Compassionate Companions work with you and family members to provide security and peace of mind, knowing that your elder family member is safe, happy and living their golden years with the best possible quality of life. Whether residential home care, in assisted living or nursing homes, our eldercare companions give our clients the senior home care and one on one personal attention they deserve.

Home Cooking and Dietary Assistance
Balanced and tasty meals go a long way to making an elderly adult a happier and healthier individual, especially when meals are prepared the way he or she remembers them. There is nothing like the aroma of a home- cooked pot of soup or chocolate chip cookies from the oven to lift the spirits. Our caregivers provide balanced nutritional meals for seniors as part of our elder care and family caregivers services. We can adjust our meals to accommodate Kosher or vegetarian diets and prepare fresh food to be consumed when the companion is not there.

Our Compassionate Companions maintain the home in a clean and healthy condition. Our senior caregivers do not do heavy cleaning but will dust, pick up stray items, maintain the kitchen; either make or change the bedding and do the personal laundry for our clients. A clean home does wonders for the spirit.

Most of our companions have either their own cars or valid drivers license. We are able to meet basic transportation needs for our existing clients. We can take your mom or dad shopping for food or clothing, drive them to physicians, rehabilitation, run errands or just go to a movie, the library or the beach for some fresh air. We do ask that the client compensates the companion for gas if there is more than just casual driving and further than a five mile radius from the home. Your older family member can have a sense of freedom to get out and enjoy life.

Whenever possible we encourage anyone who is ambulatory to go for walks, go to the gym or pool, to an exercise class or just to gently stretch. We are passionate believers in senior fitness, regular physical activity, all of which are part of aging gracefully and with dignity. Even the most basic exercise is better than no exercise at all. Science has proven that a body that moves is a body that lasts longer.

Many seniors tend to stay at home when left alone. Knowing that a friend will be visiting lifts their spirits and makes the day more enjoyable and can alleviate senior depression. With a compatible companion by their side, it becomes easier to go to the community center, talk to neighbors and become more connected to the outside world. By going to church or synagogue or senior center, our clients feel more a part of the lifestyle they enjoyed when they were younger. The importance of socialization for senior citizens adds greatly to an independent senior lifestyle.

We do our best to make sure that medications are taken on time and appropriately. A professional or family member must arrange for the presentation of the medications and we are there to encourage the client to comply. When prescriptions need renewal, we contact the pharmacy or doctor. We do not dispense medication but remind the client when it is time. If we detect that there are any issues with non compliance, we contact the designated family member or health care professional.

Safety and Security
Newspapers and TV frequently report scams aimed at vulnerable seniors. Compassionate Companions make every effort to help monitor the safety and security of the elderly to protect seniors against scam artists. While nothing is failsafe, our experienced companions can serve as your eyes and ears and be on the lookout to help protect your family member. They would be aware of any suspicious activity via mail or phone and would endeavor to contact the authorities and family immediately if any unusual activity is suspected.

Maintain Family Contact
Compassionate Companions elder care providers understand how important communication among family members is and we make sure the family is aware of any issues regarding their loved ones. Keeping all the information straight in a doctors office can be a daunting experience for an elderly person. Not only can we take them to the doctor but we can be the bridge between the physician and the family. Weekly updates either by phone or email are a part of our service if requested. Any changes in behavior or physical condition can often be recognized and family members would be notified whenever warranted. One of our primary functions is creating peace of mind for friends and families.

Compassionate Companions elder care providers can make regular calls to our senior clients on days when a personal visit is not scheduled. On days when our clients are alone, we can set up a schedule to call and check in, and offer a friendly hello. The client feels a sense of connection to a familiar voice and the family who is at a distance is reassured that their loved one is safe and sound.

Dominoes anyone? Canasta? Bridge? Gin rummy or Scrabble? Senior citizens and elderly people need games, exercise, and things to do to help keep minds working and bodies strong. These activities help senior citizens maintain good mental and emotional health. Our clients with dementia issues benefit from games and puzzles. Your family member is encouraged to play games, crossword puzzles and any interactive activity that will stimulate them. We encourage our clients to listen to music and sing familiar songs. Too many people just plop down in front of a TV and vegetate. We do not let that happen to our clients!

Post Surgery Assistance
Enjoy peace of mind as you recuperate at home from surgery. To help your recovery, we will prepare fresh and healthy meals for you, drive you to appointments or social events, help out with household chores, answer your phones and schedule appointments, change bedding, help you with showering and dressing if necessary and best of all, well care for you like Mom used to do. Our rates are hourly or daily, live in or out or just overnight.
