The property has now been sold, and Barbara Sciaretta is ready to reinvent Brant's in a new location. "There is so much potential for great things the store can bring to the community," Barbara says.
We have a chance to help this local treasure stay alive and be reborn in a new location. Sciarretta wants stay in the city and has plans to integrate local music and art, healthy food, book clubs, education groups, open mic nights, poetry readings, book signings, and much more at her new facility.
We are still working on trying to get the financing together to reopen Brant's in a new location, so keep checking back for updates! Hopefully we will have good news soon! And of course, please let us know if you see a great location, for sale-that you think might be perfect for our new store .
This year will be the first in recent memory without a Downtown Reading Festival. For $1 - $3 per book you can be a part of revitalizing literature in our community. With over 200,000 books in storage just waiting for their new home, including rare editions and out of print books, Brant's is one of Florida's largest used bookstores. Can we afford to lose such a community treasure?
... It's important to realize we are not just disappearing. So check back for news of our NEW location!! :-) Have an Idea for our new location? Contact us!
With over 100,000 + used, out of print and rare titles in stock we are one of Florida's largest and oldest used independent bookstores. Located near the beautiful white sandy beaches of Siesta Key florida we have been part of Sarasota history for over 51 years. Our building is a vintage Army barracks built for the troops during WWII. After the war the barracks were sold off in sections to be used around town as homes, offices or storage.
Many of our customers have been customers for many years-so they pass along stories about our barracks. Some remember it being used for industrial sheet metal, as a place to package school lunches for Sarasota County and as a church (a few customers remember being married in it!) Whatever the rich history our building has contained in the past, it now holds over 100,000 + used books, and a lot of really wonderful memories.
Stop by and make some of your own memories in our unique store while getting lost in the stacks, you'll never know what kinds of treasures you'll find!!
