Gandy Printers was founded in 1970 by Bernie Gandy, Jr. The company began as a single man operation running one and 2 color work on a duplicator. As time went on, employees and larger presses were added. Services such as full color printing, folding, saddlestitching, perfect binding, foil stamping, embossing, and die cutting were added as well. In 1980 Gandy Printers current facility was built to accomodate growth. The company moved into the 40” market with the introduction of 40” 6 color and 2 color presses.
Throughout the 1990’s Bernie’s children came to work in the business. Bernie’s son, Bernie III, started out cleaning up in the production area after school. He worked in the business throughout his college career. During this time he held several production and office positions, learning the business from the ground up. Today he is the president of the company, with over 17 years of experience in sheetfed offset printing. Bernie’s daughter Niki started out in the pre-press department. She is now the head of the pre-press deparment with over 15 years of experience in digital workflows, proofing, and plating. Joy Gandy, Bernie’s other daughter, began working after school in the bindery. She eventually moved into proofing, platemaking, and stripping. Joy now works in the front office performing customer service and has over 10 years experience in sheetfed offset printing.
Recently, the family recognized the trend toward short run, on-demand printing. The addition of a digital press increased the range of products and services that the company can now offer, and has given them the ability to be competitive on quantities from 1 to 100,000.
