"Standing on the banks of the Jordan, dipping our toes into the swirling water means making peace with the anxiety that comes with not knowing where the path is headed. We are feeling our way into the new land, carefully placing our feet, hoping for firm footing, eyes facing forward paying attention to the spirit of God moving ahead of us. It is scary and tense and we are a worried people in this region. But we’ll get better at this. I promise!

This moment calls for a spirit of adventurousness and a willingness to try new things, to test where spirit might be leading. A congregation I know gives an award every year for “the best idea that didn’t work!” Reminding their people that in this new land there is much to learn."
