When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say..."I used everything you gave me".
"I pledge my head to clearer thinking,
my heart to greater loyalty,
and my health to better living
. . . for my club, my community, my country and my world."
The 4-H Pledge
4-H began as a simultaneous response to needs throughout the country, rather than as the idea of one individual. The goal of the program was to extend agricultural education to rural youth by organizing boys and girls clubs and through "learning by doing." Today 4-H encompasses multiple project areas for children and young adults. The 4-H objective continues to oversee the development of youth as individuals and as responsible and productive citizens. This year, SJA student, Karissa Amrhein, was recognized for her efforts by winning Best Individual honors in the recent state competition in horticultural identification and judging. On her way to Nationals, Karissa is particularly congratulated by former national competitors, alumnae Mickey Mickler ('66) and Sr. Suzan Foster ('65).
