The story of American Employment begins a long time ago with the vision of company founder Edna Folmar. Edna opened the business in June of 1972 with very little financial backing, but she had tremendous skill in connecting businesses and eager workers. She also had a strong work ethic and a great determination to make the business succeed.
Edna and her staff quickly developed excellent business relationships in the local community by providing quality service to employers who needed assistance in locating the "best employees" for their job openings. It is a tradition that continues to this day.
Edna also believed in the importance of being involved in Tallahassee's business community and joined the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce in 1973, serving as an Ambassador for many years. After a long and successful career, she retired in 2001, leaving her daughter, Debbie Spitler, to continue the legacy. It is with immense pride and appreciation for her mother's entrepreneurial spirit that Debbie can say;"American Employment is a locally owned and operated family business."
Twenty years before taking the reigns from her mother, Debbie began her career with the company by working in entry-level positions and becoming familiar with the business from the ground up. With time and exceptional training, Debbie increased her knowledge and experience, eventually moving into the position of employment counselor and now serves as manager, president of the Board of Directors and majority stockholder of the company.
Debbie remains a hands-on manager who believes the most important aspects of running her business are developing mutually beneficial relationships with her clients, staying attuned to their needs and adapting to changes in the employment industry.
Debbie, like her mother before her, is committed to the community and is a member of the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, Leads 6 and the Zonta Club of Tallahassee, a international service organization of professional women dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls.
