Welcome to Books & Bytes, "Your Friendly Neighborhood Bookstore!"

Posted Fri., Jan. 16th, 2009
Books & Bytes went out of business indefinitely in August of 2008. However, a new store, "Eyes of a Child," is in business at our location, and they are still selling some of the same books we had, as well as a wide variety of other interesting items. Stop by and say hi to the owner of the new store.
If you want to buy any other books, most of our old inventory is still available, and you can purchase books directly from the old store's owner (Mike Frank) by calling him at (850) 597-2046.

New Owner On the Way!
Posted Tue., Sep. 2nd, 2008
Good News! A buyer has appeared, so instead of closing our doors for ever, Books & Bytes (or some of its assets, at least) is now in the process of being transferred to its new owner! It will take a few weeks for us to complete this process, but hopefully, the store will be reopening (with a new name) by early November. Watch for it!
NOTE: Although the store is not officially open or maintaining regular business hours at present, if youhave trade credit on account with us that you wish to use, or if there is a book you have ordered that you would like to pick up, you may call the (old) owner at 597-2046 to arrange a time to come intoget your books.

About Our Store
Books & Bytes is a brand-new, independent, locally-owned bookstore and Internet cafe, located in downtown Quincy, in Gadsden county, Florida. If you want to know what we are hoping to accomplish with this venture, you may wish to peruse our Mission Statement.
We are currently carrying almost 5,000 new and used books, in a wide variety of subject areas that may be of interest within the local community.
We plan to eventually carry several different newspapers and selected magazines; in the meantime, we have a couple of local papers and a number of magazines available for free reading.
Our store features a small indoor/outdoor self-serve cafe and lounge area, where patrons may buy items such as coffee, tea, hot cocoa, bagels, muffins, and pastries, and consume them while reading.
We also provide a free wireless Internet ("Wi-Fi") access point, which customers may connect to with their laptops, as well as a number of Internet-connected desktop PC work stations, which may be used for a nominal fee ($4.80-$6.00 per hour, prorated; unlimited daily, weekly and monthly plans are also available).
There is also a small play area where kids under 18 may use smaller computers for free while their parents are in the store.
Part of our store's mission is to provide a friendly, accessible gathering spot where Quincy area residents, workers, and visitors can meet, read, relax, work, socialize, or just hang out.
We plan to also host a variety of special events, such as poetry readings, a storybook hour for kids, book clubs, etc. If you would like to volunteer to help coordinate any of these events, please email events@BooksAndBytes.biz.

History and Current Status of the Store
We first started working towards the opening of the store in September of 2007, at which time we had the wildly optimistic goal of being open before Thanksgiving '07, but the startup process (particularly inventory) took much longer than we had expected. Our sincere apologies to those of you who were waiting, with bated breath, for us to open, last Falland Winter - it must have seemed to take forever!
Books & Bytes first opened its doors to the public (on an informal, experimental basis) on Mar. 8th, 2008, and we held our official Grand Opening & Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony two months later, on May 3rd, 2008. Our shelves are pretty full at this point, so we have slowed down somewhat on stocking of new books, while we focus on trying to build up our customer traffic.
Right now, we badly need all the customers that we can get, so please tell all of yourfriends and acquaintances that we are here, encourage them to visit us, and help spread the word about our store! (And if you haven't visited us lately yourself, please come back again soon!)
Our store is located at 12 W Washington St., Quincy(on the block behind and between the courthouse and Hardee's, tucked between the WGWD 93.3 studios and TMH Rehab, on the same block as Stewart's Appliance). You can view various photos of the store interior, and compare them with an early artist's conception of our store's interior layout.
We carry books in many categories. Our book inventory (not up-to-date, however) can be browsed online, and we plan to eventually be able to sell books online as well, although, for now, you still have to go through a human being to place an order. (Email your book requests to orders@BooksAndBytes.biz.)
However, in the meantime, we do already offer selected promotional merchandise (coffee mugs, hats, T-shirts, etc.) for sale through a fully-automated web store. The royalties from the sale of these promotional materials will help to defray our startup costs, while the materials themselves will help to advertise us within the community. Please show us your support, and buy a few items - they make great gifts for family & friends!
For More Information
Additional information about the store will be posted on this website as it becomes available. In the meantime, if you have any questions, you may call the store at (850) 875-4199, or call the owner, Mike Frank, at (850) 597-2046, or email him at info@BooksAndBytes.biz.
