Attention Treasure Coast Patients!

Treasure coast patients with serious eye disease have exciting new treatment options available to them, thanks to Ronald Frenkel, M.D., F.A.C.S. in Stuart and leading doctors that he collaborates with from around the country. Frenkel and his colleagues presented their numerous results about their advances in the treatment of wet Macular Degeneration and Glaucoma during the world's largest eye research meeting, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology annual meeting held in Ft. Lauderdale May 2010.

Hope for those with Dry AMD!

For some eye diseases, like Dry Macular Degeneration, there are no current treatments available.
Dr Frenkel and his colleagues presented interim findings on a Dry Macular Degeneration treatment at the Association for Research and Vision in Ophthalmology meeting, May 2009. As a result of this the FDA just granted fast-track designation for Fenretinide, a drug being studied as a treatment for Dry AMD. The FDA fast tracks drugs when it feels the medicine will make an important advance in medicine. This decision was based upon results from Frenkel and his colleagues that suggest that early treatment with Fenretinide helps these patients maintain their vision.
Dr. Frenkel has the only clinical site in this part of the State of Florida, and patients can only obtain the drug as part of the trial. Study participants in the Fenretinide clinical trial at Frenkel’s Stuart office have had access to this drug for over a year.
