How do we create Holiday Cheer at Lakeside?
The holidays are quickly approaching and we are busy preparing here at Lakeside. While many of us will be spending the holidays with friends and family, others will not. Approximately 300 adults, adolescents and children will be in our care during the holidays and it is our goal each year to bring Holiday Cheer to them all. We plan to distribute Holiday gift bags to the individuals who will be at one of our 7 inpatient units during the holidays. For some, this may be the only gift they receive all year.
Our holiday planning does not stop there! Recovery Place holds a Holiday Party each year with about 120 guests. This party is very much the social event of the year for our consumers and the anticipation is growing. Everyone will be dressed in their best party attire while enjoying a festive dinner, dancing with the DJ, and at the end of the night each guest will leave with a gift bag.
Over at our Residential Program they are gearing up for the holidays also. With over 77 individuals at both our Residential Plaza and Daves House programs our goal is to supply each adult resident with a holiday gift. But this can only happen with your support!
Lakeside Awarded Grant for Primary and Behavioral Healthcare Integration
It was announced in a letter dated September 17, 2010 from the Department of Health and Human Services that Lakeside Behavioral Healthcare received a four year grant of nearly $450,000 (for each year) to provide healthcare services to people suffering from serious mental illness.
Lakeside staff applied for this grant in May of 2009 when we saw the funds were available from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Mental Illness Awareness Week Luncheon with Guest Speaker Steve Luxenberg
Thanks to everyone who came out and supported our Mental Illness Awareness Week Luncheon. This event is just one way for us to increase awareness about mental illness and to help break down the stigmas that are typically associated with the population we serve. We have received many positive comments regarding the event and our guest speaker, Steve Luxenberg. Steve was a great speaker and many individuals had the opportunity to meet him prior to the event. Steve spoke about his book, Annies Ghost: A Journey Into a Family Secret, and if you have not read it we highly recommend it! Steve was very generous with his time after the event; answering questions during his book signing session. If you did not get a book and are interested in reading it, we have some available just contact Robbi @ 407.875.3700 ext. 6360 or email Robbi S.
We would like to offer a special THANKS to our event sponsors:
Moore Stephens Lovelace

Second Chance Foundation
National Alliance of Mental Illness Greater Orlando

The Lakeside Foundation Board Members extend their sincere appreciation and gratitude to everyone who made this event such a success.

Lakeside Celebrates Ten Years at Princeton Hospital
Executive Vice President Operations
May 2000 was the date Lakeside purchased the old Princeton Hospital and brought it back to vibrancy and life. Back in July of 1999 the general hospital had abruptly closed its doors due to bankruptcy. Staff were told to gather their personal belongings and leave immediately. Patients were moved to other hospitals and we were even told stories of one man who awoke after surgery in a different hospital!
Lakeside has been featured in this quarters Behavioral Healthcare Magazine, check out what all the buzz is about!
