Nutritionist Linda Garrison #277 has been working with clients since 1988 to help improve and maintain their health. This web site is geared towards women and their health issues.
Hormonal fluctuations are going on hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and even yearly in a woman's body. This is a natural process and normally should not cause problems. It is when these hormones fluctuate erratically or abnormally that the problems occur. Abnormal hormonal fluctuations can be subtle or so severe that you are at the doctor's office seeking help regularly. These visits to the doctor's office can be helpful or as in most cases you end up going from doctor to doctor with no answers. Many women end up on various medications, anti-depressants, anti-anxiety medications, synthetic hormones or even having surgeries.
Even with these interventions women know the problem is still not solved; they just don't feel right mentally, emotionally and physically. They have anxiety, can't sleep at night, depression and emotions go from one extreme to another. The sex drive is non existent. Some women will experience vaginal dryness. The skin will become drier and thinner. Memory is effected, names, verbal skills and learning new skills is harder. If you still have your cycle, the periods are changing, getting very heavy, longer and forming clots. For some women the cramping before and during the period is unbearable. Menopausal women may also have hot flashes, can't sleep at night and may be depressed. During the childbearing years miscarriages and infertility can be a problem. Fibroids of breast or uterus and endometriosis can be common during these child-bearing years. Of course there is the constant threat of breast, ovarian and uterine cancer starting with the child-bearing years, through menopause and beyond.
