Do Not Wait Until Summer to Look At Your Air Conditioner
6/16/2016
There are some things you can do on your own to check out your air conditioner but many people prefer to have a professional complete the air conditioner service for them annually.

You do not want to wait until the summer heat is on before you look at your air conditioner. Many times, homeowners wait until their air conditioner is not working and they are dying of heat, when they realize they should of have an air conditioner service completed by a company such as C&S A/C Services.  There are some things you can do on your own to check out your air conditioner but many people prefer to have a professional complete the air conditioner service for them annually.

Things That Must Be Done Before Summer Hits

Replace Air Conditioner Filters

This is the easiest and most important thing that you can do for your air conditioner. Believe it or not, this one thing is overlooked by many people. Change your air conditioner’s filter before you turn it on for the first time in the summer. You should also make sure to change the filter monthly, depending upon the model you have.

Clean Condenser Coils

The coils are located in the outside unit. The coils are located inside the condenser unit. If debris has made its way into the unit, the coils are most likely dirty. The coils should be cleaned every year, before the summer heat kicks in. You can simply use a refrigerator coil brush to clean the coils from the outside of the unit. If you do not know what you are doing, it is best to call an air conditioner service company to complete the job for you.

Remove Debris

You should remove all leaves and debris out of the base of the condenser. You need to make sure the drain is clear. You can also use a rag to clean the blower’s fan blades. Again, an air conditioner service company is skilled at this and can safely and effectively remove all debris from the units to keep them working their best all summer long.

Check Coolant Lines

The coolant tubes run from the evaporator on the air handler to the condenser unit that is outside. These are usually covered with foam coolant line insulation that prevents them from losing their energy. It you see portions of the insulation that is loose, missing or in need of replacement, you need to fix it by replacing the foam insulation.

Test the A/C Unit

Once you have completed all of the above steps, you need to test the unit. Before you turn your unit back on, you need to let it completely dry out. Do not want to wait until the summer heat is on before making sure your air conditioner is going to work!

Conclusion

There are simple steps you can complete annually to make sure your air conditioner is going to work well throughout the summer heat. Don’t wait to look at your unit because it is not cooling like it should. If you do not know what you are doing, it is best to call an air conditioner service company to do the work for you. If you use a company such as C&S A/C Services, you will know you are getting a top notch job done that you can rely on.
