5 General Disinfection Tips for Businesses
Information may not be reliable

7/13/2020
ServiceMaster by PWF shares some of these general tips on disinfecting offices to ease the hardships of preventing infectious diseases.

Due to the pandemic, there is a demand for workspaces to be clean, safe, and healthy. Luckily, the act of cleaning and then disinfecting a surface dramatically lessens the probability of infection spreading out across the globe.

With our nation’s top medical experts now alerting local businesses and schools to prepare and be vigilant for the spreading of the coronavirus, local companies are scrambling to disinfect their workspaces the proper way to keep employees and customers safe and protected.

There is a series of definite cleaning tools and procedures, and a right and wrong way to undergo disinfection that could make or break the health of your office workers. Here are five tips on properly disinfecting an office.

Tip No. 1: Utilize a One-Way Wipe Down

This is the most common mistake most people make. After wiping once, they wipe the same area again, or they wipe surfaces in multiple directions. For best results, wipe down a surface in a single direction and be advised not to go back over it since you will deposit microscopic organisms you just cleaned up. Practice wiping down all frequently touched surfaces like workstations, countertops, and most importantly, doorknobs.

Tip No. 2: Learn to Practice Color-Coded Cleaning

Next, routinely apply color-coded cloths assigned to specific spaces so you will never cross-contaminate the kitchen cloths with the bathroom cloths. To further avoid cross-contamination, eliminate each cloth immediately after use.

Tip No. 3: Do the Smart Spraying

Spraying with household disinfectants can be an economical way to approach the problem. However, before purchasing any common household disinfectant, check first if they are anti-COVID-19 effective.  Make sure it has the approval of, is tested by, and is certified by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency against the new “novel “coronavirus.

Tip No. 4: Practice Tech Disinfection

For office personnel stuff, thoroughly disinfect all computer components  including desktops, laptops, mice, and mobile phones. Our mobile phone is the most touched item we lay our fingers on every day, so these need extra attention.

The most dangerous behavior we unconsciously do is touching our mouth, eyes, and nose with our fingers unknowingly, spreading bacteria to and from the tech items we touch.

Tip No. 5: Utilize disinfectant products cautiously

Always be careful in handling disinfectant products. Read the instructions as labeled first and follow the hazard warnings and directions. Most of the time, cleaning products and disinfectants call for the use of gloves or eye protection. Never mix cleaners and disinfectants except if the labels convey it is okay to do so.

Additionally, handle waste carefully and appropriately by following proper waste disposal rules such as:

· wearing gloves in disposing of your waste

· labeling no-touch wastebaskets

· throwing disposable items used to clean surfaces and objects away (immediately after use)

· practicing the no-touch policy on used tissues and other waste (while emptying wastebaskets)

· rinsing your hands with soap and water (after emptying wastebaskets)

Last Minute Advice:

Post hand washing and drying signs at main office entrances, room entry doors, toilet areas, or almost everywhere. These will serve as a gentle reminder to your employees to always sanitize themselves whenever they move around offices.

It is advisable to use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60-95% alcohol or wash with warm water and soap for at least twenty seconds. Remember to dry hands thoroughly because bacteria spread with moisture.
