The US government requires all air travelers arriving in the United States from other countries to be tested for COVID-19 no more than 3 days before flight departure and to present negative test results or documentation showing the individual has recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. Air passengers are also required to confirm the information they present is true by signing an attestation. This order applies to all passengers 2 years of age or older, whether or not they are US citizens.

Before Traveling
Before traveling, consider the following:
  • Is Covid-19 spreading at the destination?
The more cases there are at the destination, the more likely infection is.
  • Do you live with someone who might be at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19?
If you get infected while traveling, you can spread the virus to loved ones when you return, even without symptoms.
  • Are you at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19?
Anyone can get ill from the virus that causes COVID-19, but older adults and people with certain underlying medical conditions are at increased risk for severe illness from COVID-19.
  • Does your destination have requirements or restrictions for travelers?
Some state, local, and territorial governments have requirements, such as requiring people to wear masks and requiring those who recently traveled to quarantine for up to 14 days.

When Traveling
When traveling, take steps to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:
  • Avoid close contact by staying at least 6 feet apart (about 2 arms’ length) from anyone not from your household.
  • Avoid contact with anyone who is sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Wash hands often or use hand sanitizer (with at least 60% alcohol).
  • Wear a mask and keep the nose and mouth covered when in public settings.

Traveling to Florida
The Florida Department of Health has issued the following Public Health Advisory:
  • Residents and visitors are advised to wear face coverings if social distancing is not possible, both indoors and outdoors.
  • Avoid closed spaces, crowded places, and close-contact settings.
  • COVID-19 is contractable during travel. You may feel well and not experience symptoms, but still spread COVID-19 to others.
  • Travel increases chances of getting and spreading COVID-19. Don’t travel if you are sick or if you have been around someone with COVID-19 in the past 14 days. Don’t travel with someone who is sick.

Domestic Travel
The COVID-19 outbreak in the United States is a rapidly evolving circumstance. The status of the outbreak varies by location. State, local, and territorial governments may have travel restrictions in place, including testing requirements, stay-at-home orders, and quarantine requirements upon arrival. Guidance and travel restrictions are updated frequently.

International Travel
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect countries differently. Challenges to any international travel at this time may include mandatory quarantines, travel restrictions, and closed borders. Foreign governments may implement restrictions with little notice, even in destinations that were previously low risk. If you choose to travel internationally, your trip may be severely disrupted, and it may be difficult to arrange travel back to the United States.
