We are pleased that you have considered Naples Mental Health for counseling. Counseling is a very personal shared interaction between two people and should not be entered into lightly.
All information disclosed within sessions and the written records pertaining to those sessions are confidential and may not be revealed to anyone without your (client's) written permission, except where disclosure is required by law.
Counseling is a collaborative process in which a unique, confidential helping relationship is developed between a counselor and a willing client. In this relationship, the professional counselor acts as a facilitator to help the client to understand more clearly him/herself and the world around him/her. The counselor and client explore the client's feelings and behaviors, relationships with others, choices and decisions, as well as the client's current situation and functioning in the home, community or workplace.
All families have disagreements. When normal conflicts turn into daily shouting matches, family members begin hurting each other emotionally (and sometimes physically) and a feeling of tension and hostility permeates the household, it's time to do something about it. Blended families in which one or both parents bring to the marriage children from previous relationships present their own unique dynamics. The counselor will sit down with the family members or the couple to decipher the core issues of conflict while assisting in finding compromise and resolution of those difficulties.
A mental health counselor is a trained professional that counsels families, individuals, groups and couples to promote the best possible mental health and well-being. Some of the many issues that they help people deal with are marital problems, stress management, substance abuse, addictions, parenting problems, family problems, depression, and problems with self-esteem. They help people concentrate on aging problems or emotional and mental health issues. Often working with a group, they counsel individuals and their families struggling with drug or alcohol addictions. The counselor helps their clients prevent and resolve conflicts or problems.
